Escaping the Ash Cloud

All is emptiness, everywhere the word 'cancelled' appears, and in my à-part terminal, one of the two egglike structures of terminal 2A, only 7 people present - if you count the 2 cleaning ladies.
An hour later more people showed up, and after a full passenger search on each one of us, we were able to board and escape before the fun icelandic cloud of volcano ash managed to break down the flight space over half of Europe. Due to the detour route we flew over the Atlantic to pass over to New York, we were one of only a few planes to head for the US yesterday.
