"Infotainment? What the hell are you talking about?"

Rue Sainte-Anne

Hooked on Paris

043
On the Passerelle de Solferino (the actual name is Passerelle Léopold Sédar Senghor, but who can remember that?) where people, Parisians and tourists alike come down to have a picnic above the Seine, you can find on one side, facing the Ile de la Cité, a quite impressive collection of locks that people hooked onto the meshlike grid of the bridge.
But what at a first glance may look like some drunk people who forgot their locks there after locking their bicycles up, turns out to be a collection of love messages to the city. Most locks bear messages from happy couples, and some have got engravings on them. What a nice way to keep a memory of your passage and come back to see if your lock is still there.

Photo Walk through the Temple

The Temple area of Paris is a wild mix of weirdness and as diverse in shopping as it can get. An eclectic mix of chinese retail stores for handbags, cheap jewelry and knick-knacks, trendy eateries and cafes, 40 year old convenience stores and fashionable boutiques in between tiny art galleries and lesser known museums. It's almost hard to believe that in medieval times this area was the fortified headquarters of the Knights Templar Order at the swampy outskirts of Paris.

Rock the Vote

They say voting can make a huge difference. That is certainly true if you consider the amount of paperwork that goes into it: It is litterally HUGE. Being signed up for long distance voting by mail in my homecountry, I recieved my ton of election papers in huge envelopes, in which some more huge envelopes were stuffed, along with a voting sheet that is so big that you really start to wonder whether the people who have to count these bulletins all wear cataract glasses and are over 70.

This voting bulletin makes me feel like a fisherman, holding up my catch of the day and bragging about its size. I had to be quite inventive when trying to push the camera button to take this picture, because i was so far away from the camera in order to catch the entire size of this mastodon.
undefined
But seriously, it's good to be able to vote. And on June 7th, Europeans are all hitting the election offices in order to reshuffle the European Parliament, and Luxembourg is voting in its new parliament as well. Let's see how things turn out on this one. And let's hope someone comes up with the bright idea to reduce paperwork for elections. He will have my vote for sure.

I am Cedric, discoverer of things that would go unnoticed in the streets of Paris, historic haven of fashionistas and city of lights ('lights' as in 'enlightenment', not street lights).
But seriously: I'm an expat from Luxembourg (the country, not the garden), living in the center of Paris (hence 'Paris 2nd arrondissement'), and currenlty studying architectural history...
