Although it was completed in 1788 following the designs of Jefferson (who actually copied the Maison Carrée at Nîmes in southern France, an ancient Roman temple) and is over 215 years old, the current State Capitol building is the eighth built to serve as Virginia's State House, primarily due to fires in the Colonial period.
The newly opened visitors entrance at the foot of the hill.

she's a lady

the Jefferson plaster model for the capitol

in the south, everything has class

How convenient for the Speaker

George, waiting for his coathanger

where politicians go to read their newspapers

patriotic doorknobs

the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II... sorry for the ligh shades

oh now she tuned into a rabbit

poor Liz, she hangs next to the elevator sign

oh well she could have ended up next to the water fountain like this unlucky guy

I guard these chairs
