Joseph Beuys, godfather of ritualistic public performance art in Germany (1960s to 1980s) was also a big opponent of nuclear weapons and campaigned for environmental causes. He even got elected as a Green Party candidate for the European Parliament.
This video shows him attempting to be a pop singer for the Green Party, singing his song 'Sonne statt Reagan' (Reagan in German sounds like 'Regen', rain) attacks Ronald Reagan*s arms policy. The song was issued as a record and Beuys appeared before big audiences with it during the peace movement's demonstrations.
Watching this video, you may notice how badly made it appears and I always break out in laughter when I observe the different people in it, acting like they don*t really know whats going on. But let*s not forget it was made in 1982, a mere 9 months after MTV was born.
Observe Beuys closely, he really feels so out of place. Not only because someone came up with the almost brilliant idea of putting him behind the band, but also because he isn*t really supposed to be a wild rockstar. In the end at least he tries to swing the microphone around and is visibly delighted to do so.
Also notice the decent female background singers. How neat! Also, all the participants of the video were members of the Green Party. The place to be if you were hip... well.
I am Cedric, discoverer of things that would go unnoticed in the streets of Paris, historic haven of fashionistas and city of lights ('lights' as in 'enlightenment', not street lights).
But seriously: I'm an expat from Luxembourg (the country, not the garden), living in the center of Paris (hence 'Paris 2nd arrondissement'), and currenlty studying architectural history...
places to go and weird stories to know about the city of lights... Improve your brain's useless knowledge parts, impress your neighbors, raise the roof, and anoy your friends with these funny facts and places
